By Jay Skeldon, 1/14/2017

The No. 15 Xavier Musketeers were edged, 83-78, by Butler in the second game of its three-game gauntlet through the Big East powers on Saturday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Muskies took a six point lead, 31-25, into half; however, Butler shot out of halftime on a 9-0 run and led the rest of the way despite XU clawing back to within one point in the final minutes of the game. Edmund Sumner, who was held scoreless in the first half, heated up big league in the second half, scoring a game-high 22 points after the break. Sumner was one of four Muskies in double figures scoring. With the loss, X drops to 13-4 overall and 3-2 in Big East action. Next up for Xavier is No. 8 Creighton on Monday at Cintas Center in a Martin Luther King Jr. Big East Marathon day of five straight games on FS1. Game time is set for 2pm.
