The Musketeers Outlasted by UC in the Shootout
By Jay Skeldon, 1/26/2017

Trevon Bluiett's deadly sharp shooting from behind the arc resulted in a career-high 40 points, but it was not enough as the University of Cincinnati Bearcats knocked off Xavier, 86-78, in the 2017 Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout before a sold-out crowd of 13,477 fans at Fifth Third Arena. The game did not disappoint in terms of action and energy. In the end, the story of the game was the Bearcats' extra effort on the glass, winning the battle of the boards, 42-33, and converting second chances into points with a 30-4 advantage. Bluiett's game-high 40 points (12-15 FG, 9-11 3-pt) was the first time a Musketeer finished with 40 or more points since David West dropped 47 on Dayton in February of 2003. With the loss, X drops to 14-6 overall (4-3 Big East). The Muskies return to Big East conference action on Sunday night as they travel to the Big Apple to take on St. John's. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
