Bluiett Leads X in the Big Apple

The No. 24 Xavier Musketeers bounced back with an 82-77 victory against the St. John Red Storm at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday evening. The Muskies, which fell on Thursday to Cincinnati in the Crosstown Shootout, came out of the gate strong and made noticeable strides towards driving the ball inside and attacking the glass. Xavier outrebounded SJU 45-26 and scored 34 of its point in the paint. Trevon Bluiett paced the way for the X-Men with his second straight back-to-back all league performance, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 boards in the winning effort.

Freshman guard Quentin Goodin, who has played with increasing confidence, stepped up big down the stretch as he replaced Edmond Sumner who left the game in the second half with a gut wrenching knee injury. Goodin finished with a career-high 16 points (4-5 FG, 7-9 FT), two assists and just one turnover. Sumner (17 points) and J.P. Macura (14 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Muskies. Xavier expects to learn more on the severity of Sumner's knee injury and his subsequent status following an MRI on Monday in Cincinnati.

Next up for the Musketeers is Seton Hall on Wednesday. Game time is set for 9:00 pm at Cintas Center.
