Muskies Edged by Creighton in Big East Semifinals
By Jay Skeldon, 3/11/2017

Creighton's Marcus Foster knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer with six seconds left on the game clock to put the Blue Jays ahead of Xavier, 75-72, and give them the win in the Big East Tournament Semifinals on Friday night at MSG. X had one last chance on a long 3-pointer by JP Macura at the buzzer but it was not meant to be. Macura was brilliant from long range, scoring 22 points including 6-of-11 from behind the arc. The Muskies also got more big game efforts from Trevon Bluiett (18 points) and Quentin Goodin (11 points). X was impressive on the glass, outrebounding the Jays, 31-24. The difference in the game was Creighton's hot shooting as it drilled 65% from downtown (13-of-20 3-point).

The loss knocks the Musketeers out of the Big East Tourney but Xavier proved to itself, the fans, college basketball nation and the NCAA Tournament committee that it has plenty of fight and heart remaining and is ready to play postseason basketball. XU had an impressive showing in the Big East Tournament, winning two games against DePaul and Butler in the preceding days, and nearly one more against Creighton, solidifying itself as a team worthy of the Big Dance. Creighton advances to the finals of the BE Tournament on Saturday night against Villanova while the Muskies (21-13) await to find out their post season fate on Selection Sunday.
