By Musketeer Madness, 3/10/2018

The No. 1 Xavier Musketeers were outlasted by No. 3 seed Providence in overtime, 75-72, in the Semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament on Friday evening at Madison Square Garden. The Friars fought back from a 14-point deficit to tie the game in regulation and go on to win in overtime. The loss for Xavier (28-5), which was the second this season against Providence, ends Xavier's bid for a BIG EAST Tournament championship and an opportunity to knock off conference rival, Villanova. The Musketeers were led by Karem Kanter and Paul Scruggs who finished with 18 and 15 points, respectively. Providence was led to by Alpha Diallo and Rodney Bullock who notched 17 points apiece. The Friars improve to 21-12 and advances to face Nova in the finals of the BIG EAST Tournament on Saturday night. Xavier, meanwhile, is still positioned well for a potential No. 1 in the NCAA Tournament. The X-Men will learn their fate for the Big Dance on Sunday afternoon during the NCAA Tournament selection show on TBS at 6pm when brackets and seeding are unveiled.
