Musketeers Fall in Championship Game of Charleston Classic to Florida

The Musketeers rallied with a furious late comeback, but in the end it was not enough as Xavier was eclipsed by Florida in the Championship game of the Charleston Classic on Sunday night at TD Arena, 70-65. The No. 18 Musketeers trailed by as many as 17 points earlier in the the game and was able to chip away at the lead with improved execution, 3-point conversions, and tightened defense. With the loss, Xavier (6-1) drops its first game of the season and takes runner-up in the Charleston Classic after having beaten Towson and UConn earlier in the pre-holiday tournament in Charleston, South Carolina. Paul Scruggs led the way for the X-Men, scoring a game-high 24 points. Quentin Goodin and Tyrique Jones rounded out the double-digit scorers for XU with 13 and 11, respectively. Jones reeled in a team-high seven rebounds. Xavier will look to regroup from its first loss of the season and return to action following Thanksgiving on Saturday, November 30. Game time is set for Noon against Lipscomb.
