Muskies Knock Off No. 10 Seton Hall in Newark
After a heart-wrenching double OT loss at home to Marquette earlier in the week, the Xavier Musketeers bounced back in a big way by knocking off No. 10 Seton Hall on Saturday before 12,230 fans at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The loss marked the first within BIG EAST play for the first place Pirates. Xavier, which led for the entire game save two minutes, was led by Tyrique Jones and Naji Marshall who turned in monster double-double performances. Jones finished with 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting. The senior center also reeled in a season-high 18 rebounds and four blocks. Marshall also notched 19 points while pulling down 10 rebounds to go with four assists.
As a team, X owned the glass, outrebounding Seton Hall 51-22. Freshman KyKy Tandy also turned in a big-time performance, finsihing with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Tandy also hit a handful of midrange jumpers and also a hard dribble-drive which he converted into a 3-point play after having been fouled.
Xavier will look to continue its winning ways with its next game against DePaul. The Musketeers travel to Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Tuesday, February 4 to take on the Blue Demons. Game time is set for 9:00 p.m. EST.
