Xavier Knocks Off Providence in Physical BIG EAST Battle
By Jay Skeldon, 2/8/2020

Xavier won its third straight game on Saturday, knocking off visiting Providence, 64-58, before a sold-out crowd at Cintas Center. The game lived up to its billing as a physical, tough, hard-nosed, grind-it-out battle, and ultimately X emerged victorious. The Musketeers were led by Tyrique Jones who finished with a double-digit effort of 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with 18 rebounds - the third straight game the senior forward has grabbed that many boards. Jones also dished four assists for the X-Men. The effort marks Jones sixteenth double-double of the season as Jones is playing at a different level of late. With the win, Xavier improves its record to 16-8 overall and 5-6 in the BIG EAST conference action. Additionally, Xavier picks up a quality, Quad 2 win against the Friars. The Musketeers will look to make it four straight on Wedenesday when it travels to Indianapolis to take on No. 19 Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
