Xavier Escapes Past St. Johns in NYC

Xavier narrowly escaped on the road on Monday evening, clawing back for a 77-74 win over St. Johns at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Musketeers scored the final eight points of the game including the go-ahead shot on the left baseline by Zach Freemantle to give X the lead. XU was led by six players who scored in double-digits scoring highlighted by Paul Scruggs who scored 16 points and Tyrique Jones and Naji Marshall who notched 15 points apiece. Jones and Marshal also pulled down 15 and 11 rebounds, respectively. That marks Jones' eighteenth double-double of the season. With the win, Xavier improves to 17-9 (6-7 BIG EAST) and picks up a valuable Quad 1 win. The Musketeers next game is set for Saturday, February 22 as it plays host to No. 12 Villanova. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
