Andy Mac provides the latest updates on Xavier Basketball TEAM 99 on the schedule and preseason BIG EAST Poll as the season quickly approaches. Follow @mm_AndyMac on Twitter for all the latest.

  • BIG EAST has released December conference schedule. (Games moved up because of COVID 19). A total of 23 BE games are now booked before Christmas including 5 involving the Muskies. XU opens Saturday Dec. 12 at Providence.

  • Xavier's Cintas opener is Tuesday December 15 vs Seton Hall. X plays at DePaul Friday December 18. Muskies host Marquette Sunday December 20 and then travel to Creighton Wednesday December 23. Ideally without COVID shutdowns this gives teams a chance to jump start and bank 4 or 5 BIG EAST games (out of 20) with over two months to work in the rest of the schedule and then play BET.

  • Preseason BE Coaches Poll is out w/ Villanova picked #1 followed by Creighton and Providence. UConn returns from AAC after 8 year hiatus. Huskies are picked #4. Seton Hall is #5. Marquette sits 6th.

  • Xavier is undervalued at #7. Butler #8. St Johns #9. DePaul #10 and Georgetown #11. Creighton Junior PG Marcus Zegorowski was selected Preseason Player of Year. Muskie Senior Paul Scruggs made second team All BIG EAST. Re the poll-I like XU being under the radar.

  • St Johns will be waaay better than #9 IMHO. Mike Anderson did wonders last season after getting hired in late April. He's added 2 strong Frosh plus Jucos and transfers and now can run his 10 or 11 or 12 man two platoon 40 Minutes of Hell style he helped perfect under Nolan Richardson at Arkansas.

  • PC will be much better in March. That's the way Coach Ed Cooley rolls. They must adjust to the loss of Alpha Diallo and PG Pipkins and 6th man Malik White.

  • XU's opener at Providence Dec 12 is a tough one for a Muskie group w/ young point guards(Odom-Tandy and Colby Jones) and 7 new players overall. 7 closely bunched non-conference games from November 25 through December 9th should have XU up to BE speed though. Xavier in revenge mode early at PC and at DePaul. Muskies lost to both those teams late in March 2020 mainly because Paul Scruggs was injured.
