That came on Tuesday night as Xavier pounded LSU, 89-65, at Cintas Center.
Sophomore guard Terrell Holloway led the charge with a strong 20 point (5-of-10 FG, 9-of-9 FT) and six assist effort. Xavier finishes out the 2009 calendar year at 8-4. Meanwhile, the Tigers, which lost by its biggest margin of the season, drop to 8-4.
Other key contributors for Xavier included Jordan Crawford (17 points), Jason Love (11 points, 7 rebounds), Mark Lyons (12 points, 4 rebounds), and Jamel McClean who recorded a double double with 10 points and 10 boards.
The Musketeers controlled the glass against the long and lean Tigers, reeling in a season high 54 rebounds including 24 on the offensive end.
Kenny Frease posted a double digit rebounding effort for the second straight game, finishing with a season-high and game-high 12 rebounds. Frease also added seven points in the victory.
The X-Men return to the hardwood to play in the first edition of the Skip Prosser Classic on Sunday, January 3 against Wake Forest. Tipoff for the game, part of a 10-year series between the schools, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
The game will be broadcast nationally on Fox Sports Net.
