Entering Saturday's contest with Florida, the Muskies were desperately seeking a signature road win. They got just that as the X-Men turned in an impressive performance, winning 76-64 over the Gators before 12,112 fans at the O’Connell Center in Gainesville. Senior center Jason Love led all scorers with a double-double effort of 20 points and 10 rebounds. The X-Men improve their record to 17-7 as they closed out their non-conference schedule. Florida, meanwhile, drops to 17-8 on the season.
The Musketeers came out of the gate strong as they built an early 19-8 lead in the first half. That margin stretched to as high as 16 points before the Gators closed out the half on a 11-2 run to move within seven at intermission, 40-33.
Florida continued its hot streak in the beginning of the second half as it tied the game at 47 with 13:04 left to play. The Gators then took the lead 49-47. In the following possessions, the score flip-flopped between ties and UF leads. Then Xavier regained control of the lead, 54-52, on a Kenny Frease jumper. X would hold onto the lead for the balance of the game and eventually post a 12 point win.
Besides Love's double-double effort, Jamel McLean played a big-time game with eight points and 13 rebounds. Jordan Crawford, who leads Xavier in scoring, added 18 points on 7-of-19 shooting to go along with four assists. Point guard Terrell Holloway added 10 points to round out the three Xavier players who finished in double-digits scoring. Holloway also dished four assists as well.
The Gators were led by Chandler Parsons who scored 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Vernon Macklin chipped in a solid 12 points and 10 boards in the losing effort.
The Muskies return to action on Wednesday night as they play host to Saint Joe's. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Cintas Center. The contest will be televised live on Fox Sports Net Ohio.
