X-Men Pickup Big Road Win at Charlotte

After beating Charlotte by twelve last month at home, the Musketeers knew the 49ers would be looking for revenge when they played the return game at UNCC's Halton Arena. Xavier answered the bell in a big way, picking up a critical road Atlantic 10 road win, 81-67, before a sold-out crowd on Saturday afternoon. Jordan Crawford, the conference's top scorer, led the charge with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting. The sophomore added six assists, four rebounds, and six assists as the Muskies improved their record to 19-7 overall and 10-2 in A-10 action. Charlotte, meanwhile, drops to 18-8 (8-4).
The story of the game was Xavier's dominance of the interior. XU scored 36 of its 81 points in the paint. Jamel McLean continued his solid play by recording another double-double, scoring 14 points and reeling in 11 boards. Jason Love added 10 points and four rebounds, while Kenny Frease chipped in six points and five rebounds in 16 minutes of action.
Other top scorers for Xavier included point guard Terrell Holloway who scored 13 points, three assists, and four rebounds. Dante Jackson also added five points, four rebounds, and three assists.
As a team, the Musketeers shot the ball well. They hit 26-of-50 from the field for 52 percent. They also shot proficiently from the foul line going 23-for-29 for 79 percent. XU's defense performance was extremely tight, as the X-Men limited the 49ers to just 36.5 percent shooting from the field (23-of-63 FG).
Charlotte was led by Derrio Green who scored 23 points. Shamari Spears added 13 points in the losing effort.
Next up for the Musketeers is another road game. Xavier will travel to Saint Louis on Wednesday night to face off against the Billikens. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. The game is set to be show live on Fox Sports Ohio.
