Trailing in the second half on the road, the Musketeers showed their mettle on Wednesday night in St. Louis. Xavier reeled off a 16-0 run to take the lead and eventually hang on for a 73-71 victory over the Billikens before 10,008 fans at Chaifetz Arena. Jordan Crawford led all scorers with 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting while senior Jason Love tied a career high with 21 points and nine rebounds. With the win, Xavier (20-7, 11-2 A-10) picks up its 20th win of the season, marking the fifth straight season that Xavier has hit that landmark. Saint Louis, meanwhile, drops to 18-9 (9-4) as its six game winning streak is snapped.
The Musketeers trailed at halftime by six points, 34-28, as Saint Louis came out charged up. SLU was also red hot from the outside, drilling 7-of-12 from 3-point land. The Billikens tough defense combined with XU's off the mark shooting led to just 38.7 percent shooting for Xavier.
Other top performers for Xavier included Jamel McLean who scored seven points and pulled down six rebounds. Terrell Holloway added nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.
The Billikens were led by Kwamain Mitchell (21 points), Cody Ellis (19 points), and Willie Reed (18 points, 13 rebounds).
Xavier returns to Cintas Center for arguably its biggest home game of the season. The Musketeers face off against No. 23 Richmond on Sunday, February 28. Xavier is sitting in a three-way tie in first place in the Atlantic 10 at 11-2 with the Spiders and Temple Owls. Tipoff for the game is set for 1:00 p.m.
