Muskies Knock Off No. 18 Butler in Big East Tournament
By Jay Skeldon, 3/9/2017

Trevon Bluiett and Malcolm Bernard provided some much needed upper classman leadership as they led Xavier to victory over the No. 18 Butler Bulldogs, 62-57, in the Quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament on Thursday night. XU overcame a four point half-time deficit to knock off BU, which had beaten the Musketeers in the two games the teams faced off in the regular season of the Big East conference play. Bluiett was brilliant, returning to his earlier season form, leading all scorers with a game-high 23 points including a jumper from the right elbow to allow Xavier to take the lead 59-57 with 17 seconds left on the clock. Bernard continued his recent string of impactful games as he recorded a double-double of 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

With the win, the Musketeers move their record to 21-12 overall and most likely firmly cement themselves into the NCAA Tournament. X also advances to the Semifinals of the Big East Tournament, facing off against the winner of the Creighton/Providence game in the night cap on Friday evening at 9:30 pm at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
