Xavier's Interior Presence Overcomes the Golden Flashes
By Kealind Trent, 12/6/2017

Xavier welcomed the Kent State Golden Flashes into Cintas on Tuesday night. The Musketeers were not friendly as they never trailed in a game that proved to be anything but a "cooldown" performance from the big week last week. Trevon Bluiett scored 26 points to lead the Musketeers to a 96-70 victory as Xavier starts 3-0 on this 6 game homestand.

Xavier started off electric as they amassed a 14-2 lead early in the ball game on six consecutive field goals. The MAC Champions refused to go down easy as they had a slight comeback spearheaded by an aggressive Danny Pippen. However, even when the lead began to shrink, Xavier righted the ship and was able to secure a 16 point lead before the halftime buzzer.

The second half was all Muskies. Kerem Kanter finessed himself into season high 20 points and all freshman were able to finish out the game for end game experience. The biggest point in the second half was the fouling out of big man Adonis De La Rosa with 2 points at 13:09 left on the game clock. De La Rosa has proven himself to be their go to man so to eliminate a number one option aides a lead. Ultimately, the Musketeers emerged victorious at a final score of 96-70.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Kaiser Gates and JP Macura both came down from the stratosphere as, other than Bluiett, it was a big mans game. Tyrique Jones, Karem Kanter, and Sean O'Mara combined for a total 47 points. Xavier also outrebounded the Golden Flashes 39-27, with 12 being offensive. If the Muskie bigs can keep producing performances like that, that will alleviate pressure on the guards and open up the game even more for an already diverse team.

Xavier does not give inclination that they plan to slow down after the best week in the country last week. They maintain a hot pace and as the wins continue to roll in, the Muskies should find themselves in the AP Top 10 within a week or so. The Musketeers greet the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday in a evening bout at Cintas (5PM ET). The Musketeers are rolling and the fans can not get enough.
