X Falls on the Road to Butler
After winning its last five games, Xavier looked to continue the momentum on Tuesday evening against Butler. The Bulldogs, though, had other ideas as Kamar Baldwin led all scorers with 24 points as Butler eclipsed the Musketeers, 71-66, before 8,551 fans at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Xavier made a late charge to bring the game within three points with 4.5 seconds left but it was not enough as Baldwin put the game out of reach, converting both of his free throws after being fouled on an inbounds pass. Turnovers were the difference in the game as X turned the ball over 15 times compared to 10 times for Butler. XU was led by Tyrique Jones and Paul Scruggs who scored 13 apiece. Zach Hankins added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds. With the loss, Xavier drops to 16-14 (8-9) in the BIG EAST with one game remaining in the regular season schedule.
The Musketeers round out their regular season schedule on Saturday as Xavier plays host to St. John's at Cintas Center. Xavier aims to complete a season sweep of the Red Storm and finish out BIG EAST play with a .500 record. The contest will tip-off at 5:00 p.m. and will be televised on FOX national.
