Late Comeback Falls Short for Xavier in the Skip Prosser Classic
Paul Scruggs recorded a career-high 30 points on 13-of-19 shooting but it was not enough as No. 23 Xavier was beaten, 80-78, by Wake Forest in the Skip Prosser Classic at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After being down 12 points with just over seven minutes left in the game, X showed some fire as it fought back against the Demon Deacons to close the deficit to one point with 1:44 remaining. Xavier kept clawing but couldn't quite pull ahead in the end as the Musketeers (9-2) dropped their second game of the season. The game marked Xavier's first true road game of the year and the Musketeers' first game following last week's win against UC in the the Crosstown Shootout and first after first semester final exams. Scruggs was joined in double figures scoring by Naji Marshall (16) and Tyrique Jones (12) for Xavier.
The Musketeers are back in action on Wednesday as they return home to play host to Western Carolina in the second installment of the Skip Prosser Classic. The Catamounts of Western Carolina are coached by Mark Prosser, the son of the late Xavier legendary coach, Skip Prosser. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. at Cintas Center.
