X Handles Big 12 Foe on the Road
Tyrique Jones exploded for 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as Xavier picked up its first true road win of the season on Sunday evening, knocking off TCU, 67-59, in the Big East-Big 12 Battle at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The double-double for Jones was his sixth for the Musketeers (11-2) this season as the team concluded its final contest in its non-conference schedule. Other standouts included Xavier point guard, Quentin Goodin, who recorded a season-high 11 assists which moved him into fourth place in the all-time assist leaders in Xavier history with over 500 for his career. Paul Scruggs also added 10 points and four boards in the winning effort for X.
Xavier built a lead as large as 22 points with 7:14 remaining in the second half; the Horned Frogs chipped away including a 13-6 streak in the last three minutes of action final three minutes of play, however, Xavier was able to withstand the run and hold on.
After taking a few days off to celebrate Christmas, Xavier will turn its sights to the opening of Big East play as the Musketeers travel to Villanova for their conference opener on Monday, December 30.
