Big Least

Postby X-Expert » Fri Mar 17, 2017 11:07 pm

Thank God X won-NOVA and Butler continue to hold the flag in Big East but the rest of the conference has really been exposed. I believe someone said during X's 6 game losing streak that X would still be on top of A-10. If that is the case, X must have really laid an egg against Creighton because URI (who had to win tourney to get in) dominated Creighton from start to finish. Disappointed in Marquette, Creighton, and SHU. I never thought Providence deserved to get in

I agree. This is the most overrated conference in the country. Anyone who thinks differently didn't witness the embarrassing perfomances by Creighton and Marquette.

The difference between the big east and A10 is Nova and fewer bottom feeders. X would be far better off if they took the best of the big east, A10 and added Creighton and Wichita State. The conference needs public universities for diversity of playing style and skill. 10 schools additionally is an issue for diversity of playing style and talent.

If Nova didn't win it last year the conference would be seen as a joke. Look past Nova and there is not much there. Butler has a tough path but might make some noise given what they did early in the season plus 2 wins against Nova. X might have 1 more win, which would be huge for the conference.

Play UD against South Carolina and they get the W. Losing to Wichita St is reasonable not to South Carolina or Arkansas. X got a great draw against a terrible big 10 team and a weak SEC school. After that the gifts end.

Sorry, this thread is BS. Per the seeding the BE was predicted to go 3-4 in round one and that is precisely what happened. No exposure of the league, no overrating.

And to add to your point, USC again came from behind and defeated SMU, the #1 team from the AAC.

What does a team from the crappy AAC losing have to do with the epic fail of what is supposed to be a top three conference? It's been a disaster, no matter how you try to gloss over it!!

Epic fail?!?! Its not like 1-4 seeds fell from the BE. These were all toss up games for the most part.

The BE was THIRD in the conference rankings. The BE had three seeds very low and four teams with high seeds. That does not mean that they did not deserve SEVEN bids. Look at it this way - Nova had 3 losses all to other BE teams, Butler had 8 losses with 6 losses to other BE teams, Crea. had 10 losses 8 to other BE teams. SH, Prov, Marq, all had 12 or 13 losses 8 of which were to other BE teams. XU had 13 losses 9 to other BE teams. The conference was SUPER competitive and beat each other up. That still meant that the conference faired better than other conferences and deserved their bids. The higher seeds WERE NOT FAVORITES in their games including XU. So the teams that did lose were picked to lose. The league got the SECOND amount of bids and that is quite an accomplishment. I am very proud of our conference and glad we are in it. Go Xavier!

Nova 1 seed. Butler 4. Creighton 6. Based on seeds all 3 of these should have won.
S Hall 9 seed. Marquette 10. XU 11. Providence 11. Based on seeds all 4 of these should have lost.
That's what we got. 3 wins & 4 losses. Creighton was upset & XU pulled an upset.
I previously wrote that NKU had a much higher RPI than Georgetown, St Johns or DePaul and could compete against those 3 BE Teams.
Many scoffed at that, but wonder how anybody feels now after NKU lost by 9 to UK and had it to 6 or 7 with under 2 minutes.
26 of final 32 from Power 5 plus Big East. Only Gonzaga & St Marys (WCC), Wichita St (MVC), R Island (A10), UC (AAC) & Middle
Tennessee were able to pull off wins from so called mid-major or lesser conferences.
