Most heads of programs and or companies make more by bonuses and side contracts than their annual salary. Example of smoke and mirrors....the Health INSURANCE companies complain of losing monies on their customers and need for higher premiums for Health insurance. However, HEALTH Insurance executives are paid by growth and profits.....each of the top 5 Health Insurance Ceo's makes a salary of about $1 million a year and a bonus based on profits etc. Each of the top 5 CEOs makes $10 million to $17 million annually , of which most of those $$$ is a bonus. They are not losing monies, nor is there need for more premium hikes. The point is Salary plus bonuses based on performance for X's coach should allow the coach to make $2 million plus if he performs to the bonus goals/standards...on pay for performance. A $1.5 million salary and great or good bonus payments for academic player performance, graduation of players, win loss record, League performance, making the NCAA tournament, winning within The Dance $$$ for each win thru the FF, and other incentives as appropriate. The X coach can make as much as he can get for radio and tv shows, Nike or other contracts, etc. Again, more to be made on the bonus side.

I'm sure that this kind of "news" could never get put out there to encourage a certain organization to up the ante. That could never happen. lol

GT has a national search firm engaged - Korn Ferry.
That will add to the timeline for getting a coach.
It's interesting to read some of the GT fan forums about the impact of Nike on the decision.
JT2 has been a long time Nike guy so any coach with an Adidas connection may not be considered.
And JT2 still casts a long shadow at GT that may scare off a coach.

Home City Ice is not that much. I asked on the other board his income and I believe total it is about $1.7 million. I concur that we need to get him quickly to $2.5 million. Bite the bullet!

Coach Mack has a family who like it here and has a legit chance to take us to Final 4 or win it all - ala Jay Wright. He knows the limits
Xavier has and what is all that extra money worth if you don't like where you have to live. My father turned down double pay because he didn't want to move to Massachusetts. I personally turned down double pay because I didn't want to live in Cleveland. Money can be a curse as much as a blessing. I am certain he lives very comfortably on what he makes now and money ain't everything. Maybe it is to the younger folk, but most of us oldtimers see much value in life besides money. How you invest that money can also make a huge difference. We lost previous coaches because we were in the A10 or MCC. Sean Miller gets 2.2 million & maybe he just likes the climate in Arizona. And he is a Xavier graduate - loyalty still exists to some.

The problem with the big contracts is the length of the contract. Sign someone for 3-5 years for 3 mill and he doesn't work out. You are now stuck with not having enough money for a new coach.
