Freshman valued , seniors little value:NBA Draft?

Postby Xavier2005 » Thu Apr 26, 2018 1:36 pm

This is from one Mock NBA Draft for 2018, so it is not the actual picks yet. However, this one Mock Draft had 20 Freshman and just 2 Seniors picked for the first and second rounds combined. It appears if a player plays all four years in college , then the player is less likely to be drafted by an NBA team.

It makes sense at this point. For one, guys that stick around until they're seniors probably don't have the raw talent or build for the NBA.

This doesn't necessarily mean you can't make it (see guys like TJ McConnell) but it already sets you back.

Beyond that, the NBA wants time to develop guys. If the rookies come in at around the same level, then it's the difference between having a 19 year old to groom and develop vs a 22-23 year old. IF it takes 2-3 years to hit their potential then you're looking at a guy who is 21-22 vs 25-26 when they're hitting their peak.
