March 28th, 2004 Elite 8...did refs keep X from the Final Four?

Postby Xavier2005 » Wed Jan 23, 2019 11:23 am

Many say refs do not decide a game or do they, in some situations? I was at the game on March 28, 2004 in Atlanta. Duke won over Xavier 66-63 in an Elite 8 game ,which sent Duke to the Final Four. Halftime score was Xavier 30 and Duke 28. Every play of that game , every second/minute is noted in detail ,in words on the "internet summary " play by play of the game. Myles, X's center was dominating Duke in the middle....Myles played only 23 minutes, scored 16 points on 7 of 11 shots. Myles had one foul in the first half. If you do not think the refs can decide a game or be bought or ??? Here is what happened to Myles in the 2nd half. 20 minutes left in the 2nd half. 19:26 left in the 2nd half Myles called for foul #2 he was away from the ball....18:17 Myles called for foul #3 noted again/Myles was away from the ball......12:44 Myles called for foul #4 ...12:29 Myles called for foul #5.....2 fouls in 15 seconds. Myles fouls out of the game with 12 minutes and 29 seconds left in the game....Duke barely wins by 3 points. Xavier lost their big man in the middle with 4 fouls in the 2nd half, all in less than 7 minutes and 2 fouls called 15 seconds a part. The refs or someone decided X was not going to beat Duke and thus maybe took out Myles thru fouls very quickly.

let's not forget Thad furiously arguing foul #4 instead of keeping his cool and simply getting a sub in for Myles right then. might have been a different outcome had we had Myles for the last 5 minutes.

maybe Thad was arguing the foul.....much like Sean Payton was arguing a no call foul . Maybe Thad knew his man, Myles , did NOT foul. Maybe "the fix" was in??? Refs do decide some games....whether they are bought or not bought....we just never know.

Of course referees can help decide a game, just as a star player, or a sub who comes in and makes one outstanding play, effects the outcome.

Now, you’ve caused my blood pressure to rise and think about Referee John Cahill, Greg Oden and the Ohio State game.

yes, I was at that game also....sitting just a few feet away from that "intentional" push foul, which should have given X 2 foul shots and the ball back...instead X and OSU tie due to a non call intentional foul and X loses in OT.............another bad ref call, which decided a game at the very end.

how about Cage just makes the FT?

how about we don't let Lewis get off a 3?

any of those things play into the outcome?

just wondering.

all of the above is correct....including make the free throw and foul, so there are only 2 free throws...instead of them making a 3 point shot. But none of that should have been necessary if if the ref makes the correct call.

or foul instead of letting them shoot a 3. Watch Arizona today and Miller fouls every time. He learned his lesson

New Orleans wants to have a "do over".
I think X should have a do over with OSU.
Oden's knees are shot, think we have a pretty chance to win.
