Last 10 Minutes Game Summary in BE Play

Postby mumuskie87 » Sun Feb 10, 2019 12:52 pm

For those who subscribe to KenPom (actually a pretty good value for $19.95 per annum), he breaks down scoring by 10 minute "quarters".
Here is X's record in BE play on the last 10 minute quarter from the most recent game to 1st game in conference play -
DePaul - Lost the game by 12. Lost the 4Q - 29-11 Blew a 6 pt lead in the last 10 minutes
Creighton - Lost the game by 22. Lost the 4Q - 20-9
Gtown - Lost the game by 7. Lost the 4Q - 24-16. Had the lead by 1 after 30 minutes
Marquette - Lost the game by 5. Lost the 4Q 31-20. Blew a 6 pt lead in the last 10 minutes
PC - Lost the game by 2. 4Q was tied at 17 all
Nova - Lost the game by 10. Lost the 4Q - 31-25
Seton Hall - Lost the game by 10. Lost the 4Q - 27-12. Blew a 5 pt lead in the last 10 minutes.
Marquette - Lost the game by 18. Lost the 4Q - 20-17.
Butler - Won the game by 1. Won the 4Q - 23-17. A comeback win.
Gtown - Won the game by 6. Won the 4Q - 22-2. Another comeback win as they won the 2nd half by 11 points.
DePaul - Won the game by 9. Won the 4Q - 24-17.

So 7 out of the 8 losses in conference play, X has lost the 4Q and blew leads in 3 of those losses. Didn't count the 2nd Gtown where they had a lead of 1 after 3 quarters.
And won the 4Q in each of their 3 conference wins.
What's concerning is the trend.
The last 4 games, X has been outscored 104 to 56 in the last 10 minutes of those games.
An average of 12 points per game.

I think you will find in these games Welage was on the court the whole time..or maybe a little break for offense/defense. Too late now but...

Yea...not sure what the individual player rotations were for those games.
I know that Goodin didn't play in the Gtown and Butler games. Both Marshall and Scruggs played 40 minutes in those 2 games. Goodin played 40 min against DePaul and Scruggs played 38 and Marshall 33.
Welage played 32 min against Butler, 21 against Gtown and 29 against.
As you said, it's too late at this point. Kind of like putting toothpaste back in the tube.
Still would think it makes sense to get him some more shots.
He has taken a total of 12 3's (or 2 a game) in the current 6 game losing streak. Has made 5 or 42%.
Prior to that he was averaging 5.2 attempts from 3 per game.

he was in, may have been subbed for Kennedy offense/defense. Spaced floor, hit a key 2 pt on a drive in each game, no turnovers. Strange but opened up floor for Scruggs and Marshall . He is not Larry Bird or Luca Doncic for sure but could have been used a little more..only got 12 min total last 2 games. maybe seeing if Hardin can play next year
