Xavier Dominates Seton Hall for First BIG EAST Win

Ryan Conwell led six Musketeers in double figures, propelling Xavier to its first BIG EAST victory of the season with a commanding 94-72 win over Seton Hall on Tuesday night at Cintas Center.

Conwell scored 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including three three-pointers, and added two rebounds and two assists. His efforts anchored a decisive early surge for Xavier. After falling behind 5-0 in the opening minutes, the Musketeers responded with a game-changing 16-0 run, marking their largest scoring stretch of the season and securing an 11-point lead with 13:07 remaining in the first half.

The Musketeers, now 9-5 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play, were dominant on both ends of the floor. Marcus Foster contributed 14 points and six rebounds, while Dante Maddox Jr. added 14 points, including two three-pointers, along with six assists. Dailyn Swain also impressed, finishing with 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

Xavier’s efficiency was evident throughout the game, shooting 57.4% from the field and 47.6% from beyond the arc. The team’s ball movement was outstanding, with 20 assists on 27 made field goals, and their defensive intensity forced 14 Seton Hall turnovers, leading to 18 points.

Seton Hall, now 5-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play, was led by Isaiah Coleman’s 19 points and five rebounds. Scotty Middleton added 12 points, while Dylan Addae-Wusu chipped in with 11. Despite their efforts, the Pirates struggled offensively, shooting 37.7% from the field and committing costly turnovers during Xavier’s dominant first-half run.

By halftime, Xavier held a 44-31 advantage, fueled by Conwell’s 18 first-half points. The Musketeers extended their lead to as many as 28 points in the second half, with reserves like John Hugley IV (11 points) and Jerome Hunter (12 points) maintaining the team’s momentum.

The Musketeers controlled the paint, outscoring the Pirates 32-28 inside and showcasing their depth with 27 points from the bench. Their aggressive play also earned them frequent trips to the free-throw line, converting 30-of-40 attempts.

Xavier will next face Georgetown on Friday, Jan. 3, at Capital One Arena. The game tips off at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network.
