The Xavier Musketeers gave No. 6 Gonzaga all it could handle but in the end could not pull out the victory in the third place game of the Phil Knight Legacy on Sunday night in Portland, falling 88-84. Xavier senior Jack Nunge led all scorers with a season-high 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field. Junior Colby Jones finished with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting including 3-of-3 from behind the arc.

Xavier trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half but the Musketeers hung tough and battled back, pulling within six points at half. In the second half, Xavier locked down its defense and went on a 9-0 run to take the lead, 71-63. The Zags regained control with a run of their own and held on to knock off X. With the loss, Xavier drops to 4-3 while Gonzaga improves to 5-2.

Next up for Xavier is Southeastern Louisiana which Xavier hosts on Wednesday, November 30 at Cintas Center. Tipoff is slated for 8:30 p.m.
