X Celebrates NYE with Win Over No. 2 UConn

Four Muskies led Xavier in double figures scoring as No. 22 Xavier knocked off No. 2 UConn for its first loss of the season, 83-73, on New Year's Eve on Saturday afternoon before a raucous sold-out crowd of 10,565 at Cintas Center. Zach Freemantle led the way, notching his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Colby Jones added 16 points, five assists and four rebounds while senior Jack Nunge scored 15 points. Jerome Hunter came through big-time off the bench with 15 points on 3-for-4 shooting and was 9-for-9 from the line. With the win, Xavier (12-3, 4-0 BIG EAST) hands the Huskies (14-1, 3-1) their first loss of the season.
Next up for Xavier is a roadtrip to Philadelphia to take on Villanova next Saturday, January 6. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
