In a commanding performance at the Cintas Center on November 12, 2024, Xavier soared past Jackson State with a decisive 94-57 victory. The Musketeers set the tone early, building a 15-point lead by halftime and maintaining their dominance throughout the game. Zach Freemantle led Xavier's charge, contributing 21 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Xavier showcased its depth with 42 bench points, and their crisp ball movement resulted in 28 assists. The home crowd of 10,107 had plenty to cheer about as the team converted 54.1% of their shots from the field and 51.6% from three-point range.
Jackson State struggled to match Xavier’s offensive firepower, shooting only 28.8% from the field. Despite Jayme Mitchell Jr.'s valiant effort, scoring 26 points and hitting five three-pointers, the Tigers couldn't close the gap.
The team's offensive woes extended to the paint, where they managed just 26 points compared to Xavier's 32. Additionally, turnovers proved costly for Jackson State, with Xavier capitalizing for 31 fast-break points. The Tigers' defense couldn't contain the Musketeers' sharpshooting, particularly during the second half, when Xavier hit 58.1% of their field goals.
The victory extends Xavier’s perfect start to 3-0 for the season, while Jackson State remains winless at 0-3. The Musketeers demonstrated their strength as a cohesive unit, with standout performances across the board, including Dailyn Swain's double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Jackson State will need to regroup and find ways to diversify their offense beyond Mitchell Jr.'s brilliance. Xavier's convincing win highlights their potential as a formidable contender in the Big East this season.
