The Xavier Musketeers edged out the Arkansas State Red Wolves 45-41 in a tightly contested women’s basketball game at the Cintas Center. Xavier jumped to an early lead, bolstered by an 11-point first-half scoring run and a balanced offensive effort led by Loren Christie and Daniela López. The Musketeers controlled the tempo early, with sharp ball movement and a solid defensive stand, holding Arkansas State to just five points in the second quarter.

The halftime score of 23-12 reflected Xavier’s dominance on both ends of the court, particularly their efficiency in transition.

Arkansas State mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, fueled by Mimi McCollister and Kyanna Morgan, who combined for 15 points. A key third-quarter run closed the gap, as the Red Wolves outscored Xavier 15-8 in the period, cutting the deficit to just four points heading into the final quarter.

Their defense also tightened, forcing turnovers and limiting Xavier’s open looks from beyond the arc. Arkansas State’s bench players, especially Nissa Sam-Grant, provided critical energy, narrowing the lead with clutch plays in the paint.

In the final moments, Xavier’s composure proved to be the deciding factor. Tae’lor Purvis and Christie made crucial plays, including a late assist and a putback to extend the Musketeers’ slim lead. Arkansas State had a chance to tie the game in the final minute but struggled to convert under pressure.

Despite the Red Wolves’ valiant effort, Xavier’s early lead and timely execution allowed them to secure the hard-fought victory, improving their record to 3-1 on the season.
