The Xavier women's basketball team opened their Big East conference play with a challenging 82-54 loss to Creighton at the Cintas Center. Creighton’s efficient shooting and relentless defensive pressure set the tone early, building a significant lead that Xavier struggled to overcome throughout the game. Despite strong efforts from Loren Christie and Júlia Garcia Roig, the Musketeers fell to 4-4 on the season.
Creighton took control from the start, with Lauren Jensen leading the charge. Jensen scored a game-high 23 points, shooting an impressive 9-for-12 from the field. Mallory Brake added 17 points and grabbed four rebounds, while the Bluejays shot 52.5% overall and hit 35.5% from beyond the arc. By halftime, Creighton had established a commanding 42-19 lead, holding Xavier to just 29.6% shooting in the first half.
Xavier showed resilience in the second half, outscoring Creighton 20-15 in the final quarter. Loren Christie led the Musketeers with 21 points and seven rebounds, including several key plays in the paint. Júlia Garcia Roig added nine points, showcasing her energy off the bench. However, Creighton's depth and dominance on the boards proved insurmountable, as the Bluejays secured 12 second-chance points and controlled the game’s tempo.
Xavier will look to bounce back in their next contest against Bowling Green on Saturday, December 7, aiming to find consistency on both ends of the court. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
