It was a tale of two halves at the Cintas Center on Saturday, but for the Xavier Musketeers, the story ended exactly how they intended. Behind a balanced offensive attack and a masterful display of free-throw shooting, Xavier fended off a persistent Georgetown squad to secure a 91-84 victory in front of a capacity crowd of 9,785.
The matchup was a classic Big East grind, defined by tactical adjustments and constant swings in momentum. Georgetown entered the break with a slim 39-38 advantage, having shot a sharp 51.85% from the field in the first 20 minutes. However, the Musketeers found their second-half rhythm, turning the tide by leaning on an aggressive approach that saw them dominate the charity stripe. Xavier converted 18-of-20 free throws after the intermission, maintaining an 88.5% clip for the entire contest to keep the Hoyas at arm's length.
Tre Carroll spearheaded the Xavier effort, delivering a game-high 22-point performance while proving automatic at the line, where he drained all 10 of his attempts. The Musketeers’ bench provided a crucial spark, most notably from Roddie Anderson III, who poured in 21 points and dished out four assists in 28 minutes of action.
Filip Borovicanin rounded out the standout performances for the home side, contributing 18 points and five rebounds to help Xavier navigate through seven lead changes and four ties.
Georgetown refused to fade quietly, relying on an explosive outing from Kayvaun Mulready, who ignited the Hoya offense off the bench with 19 points, including five shots from beyond the arc. Malik Mack added 17 points and drained five three-pointers of his own, while Vincent Iwuchukwu provided interior presence with 15 points and six rebounds.
Despite the Hoyas' ability to keep the game within reach, Xavier’s transition game—which produced 27 fast-break points—proved too much for Georgetown to contain over the full 40 minutes.
The victory marks a gritty response for Xavier, who capitalized on 18 points off turnovers to outpace a Georgetown offense that stayed efficient but struggled to match the Musketeers' volume in the final frame.
As the conference schedule reaches its final stretch, Xavier continues to lean on its depth and composure in high-pressure environments at the Cintas Center.
