UMass about to lose Ford, Butler to keep Stevens

The OK State fans are not very happy with this developement. They first thought that Self was the guy, then Jamie Dixon, then Billy Gillespie, then they were certain Sean would be interested (he was not the least bit), then they asked Lowery he said no thanks and it was too late to get the sixth guy they wanted Keno Davis who went to Providence. So to say they are unhappy that that with all of the money they were throwing out that they had to settle on a guy that was probably not even on the coaching list to begin with and with a guy who has been ok at UMASS, but not spectacular, as their next coach. The sad thing for Travis is that if he is less then super in his 1st three years that nut job Pickens will be ready to run him out of town and his career could be over as quick as it began. This does kind of suck for UMASS. Maybe they will try to pick an assistant from Xavier, it might not be a bad move.

For continuity's sake, UMass could give the job to Assoc. Head Coach Tim Maloney, but (1) he could go to Ok. St. with Ford, and (2) he's got a "career assistant"-type resume.

T Boone should be the least of TF's worries. He is not going to live forever ... and he's bumping 75 or so now.

TF's worry will be playing in what has become a pretty good basketball conference with UT, Kansas, Baylor, K-State and A&M..

As far as Coach Stevens staying at Butler through the course of his new contract extension, I'd say there is as much chance of that happening as there is for Tom Crean to win next year's NCAA National Championship or Mark Schmidt's Bonnies winning the 2009 A-10 Championship.

Both of Butler's last two coaches left for greener pastures after 5 or fewer years and Stevens isn't even a Butler grad (like Lickliter and Matta were)!

Those long contract extensions are worth no more than one of the 500 sheets of paper I bought in my last ream. Maybe less since mine are clean on both sides!
