Hard Times: the end of sellouts?

Postby CarlosTheJackal » Tue Sep 16, 2008 10:47 pm

This topic starts with the cost of seat licenses and season tickets at Cintas, but I want to discuss the broader picture.

It is no secret that our arena and our attendance are driven by corporate box sponsorships, advertising panels, and the discretionary income of those who can afford the seat licenses and tickets.

Things are not going to be pretty in the economy for awhile. Consumer spending is slipping, and a new prez is not going to be a quick fix. The marketing and sponsorship budgets, as well as the individual spending habits of us all, should and will be getting a hard look.

The marginal seat purchasers, for whom the game is not a passion or a first priority, will waver. "Lifestyle" ticket purchasers will think hard about a continued commitment. At a school with a relatively small alumni base, things will be tougher than at a state school with a huge alum following.

Just sayin.
