This Saturday at 2:00 PM, Xavier's club team plays at Lincoln U. (Div.II varsity coached by ex-Bengal Lamar Parrish); The school's radio station, KJLU (88.9) will stream the game live.

LIstening to the game:

28-7 at halftime. Painful to listen to Muskies miscues but equally painful to listen to two announcers (one claiming to being from Ohio) neither of whom know how to pronounce "Xavier". You would think that somebody down there would know how to say Xavier but I digress.. Any time you have as many turnovers as X has had so far problems will arise. I am a litte surprised that Xavier's defense is not playing better but this could be where conditioning comes into play. Xavier does not start practice until late August whereas schools like Lincoln have been at it since early August. The announcer cited a Lincoln runner's work in the weight room but Xavier has no formal weight training program.

As I told the players at Thursday's practice. play smart and try to minimize turnovers. Don't know about the former but the latter are killing us. Can't say how much of it is due to Lincoln's defensiive pressure on Greenwood. (Wait a second....KJLU halftime newsman got "Xavier" right.). Starting linemen, senior Vinnie Castrigano (a three year starter) is out with a broken collarbone and starting freshman T.K. Washington missed the trip due to a family illness. WR Dan Deters is playing with a hip pointer. Not making excuses but since Xavier's numbers are not that great, any absence hurts.

There is a second half to play so we shall see. Go MUskies!!!

Xavier has a nose tackle who's 6'6" and 475? Talk about an immovable object.

56-7

a good old fashion butt whippin
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

MM:

Yes, it was a butt whipping but I guess that can happen when a club team goes up against a D-II scholarship program on its homecoming no less,. What disappoints me is that Xavier miscues (interceptions and fumbles) doomed the team from the start. But that happens; I suppose Lincoln was jusy way too deep for X (but I might point out Mt. Union's 49-7 thrashing of fellow D-III power, Capital which was undefeated until last Saturday).

Don't know if you listened to the game but I found the announcers inability to pronounce Xavier as X-Zavier annoying. But most perturbing was coach Lamar Parrish's decision on a 4th and goal from X's 2yd. line to go for a TD with the score already 49-7. My radio transmission faded but it appears X held but another miscue gave Lincoln the ball inside X's 20. Facing another 4th down (and 4), Parrish goes for the TD and gets it (still in the 3rd Q.). 56-7. No class in my books but hey Miami is up on Saturday and the Muskies will rebound. Gotta admire X's effort in playing the game even agaiinst steep odds.

My sources tell me that one of the X kids banged up his knee, but the squad is otherwise healthy after a tough game. Here's hoping a lot of people come to Withrow Saturday for what promises to be a good football game.

Not sure if the Muskies could have pulled a W out Saturday, but the turnovers killed them. Muskie D started with 2, 3 and outs for Lincoln. X had 4th and 8 from the Lincoln 32, but decided to punt. I think that was the turning point of the game as the Muskie D seemingly spent the rest of the day on the field.

Hard trip and a tough game, but I will be there Saturday.
