Attitude

Postby millerdad » Mon Nov 24, 2008 12:50 pm

This quote is from an ESPN article. This is exaclty what i like!!! This team has an attitude which will take them to victory! Frease is displaying something that Cage, Dolleman, and Duncan did not have and I always complained about. I told my friend that even though XU won 30 games they were one of my least favorite XU teams to watch because Cage, Dolleman, and Duncan played emotion less. They were boring to watch. But now with CJ, McClean,Frease, Brown and Holloway...they have an attitude!!

"Instead, the Musketeers got in the Tigers' grille, literally and figuratively. When Memphis senior Antonio Anderson and Xavier freshman Kenny Frease came down in a tussle for a rebound, Frease stood toe-to-toe jawing with Anderson. It was nothing and everything at the same time, symbolizing Xavier's attitude that it wasn't going to back down from the No. 12 team in the country."

Your right...I don't mean the 30 win season but the seasons that Duncan, Cage, and Doleman played in. Lavender and Burrell showed more attitude than the other 3.

I will take emotionless Cage over Ocho Cinco.
Bravado and the Michigan Fab 5 or the 92 UC Bearcats turn me off.

Act like you have been there before. Doellman and Cage showed more with stitches in an eye ball, sprained ankles(Cage) and face masks (Doellman) than Dontonio Wingfield, Chris Webber, Kenyon Martin and Frease combined.
They made up in talent with knowing how to win and playing very strong.

I loved Cage's attitude. He was tough not quite C.J. but I thought he had Atitude. Duncan was a little less but down the stetch he was awesome in his senior year especially the last 15 games. Doellman was just a great player, You can't play at his level without a strong Atitude.

XUkeith.....you may not like bravado but when you face a team that thinks they are supposed to beat you you gotta show them that you are here to play...Kinda like the bully that takes your lunch money. he will keep taking it until you kick him in the balls.....

Cage was a true warrior on the court, and both Duncan and Doellman showed a less visible toughness, especially in their senior years. It's easy to mistake shows of emotion with actual toughness.

Frease looks like he won't back down from anyone, but neither would Kevin Frey. And while Frey was definitely a "glue"-type player, nobody would say he was more valuable than Cage, Doellman or Duncan.

Attitude is great but it doesn't replace consistency. Duncan was dependable and carried the team on his back during A10 play last year. Burrell was always leaving everything on the floor and Lavender got the ball where it needed to be. You can't replace these things with just attitude.

This year's team is more than attitude as Love has improved his all around game. Brown has worked on his shot and BJ has upped his defensive effectiveness. CJ has become more of a leader and Jackson is taking on more of the scoring load. Holloway was incredible in Puerto Rico and Frease gave the team quality minutes - blocking shots, etc. McLean is impressive and will be a dependable force once he improves his FT shooting.

There is still tremendous growth ahead and someone must emerge as a dependable shooter. Look for Walsh or Redford to step up and play big in the next few games. They will likely get serious minutes as we need to find another guard to add to the rotation - especially with Holloway out for several weeks. Even after Holloway returns the team still needs another shooter to rotate in when Jackson and Raymond are both struggling from the floor. We have always had big men that can step out and hit the shot to keep the defense honest. Brown may be able to do that but I'm not sure how consistent he will be. Given his other abilities we may not want him settling for jumpers too often anyway.
