what i am trying to say is how can a missed intentional foul decide a game. Both times the Ref called a foul, so the opposition really didnt get an advantage at all

You can not see how an intentional foul or a flagrant foul called on Odin would not have changed that game! First off X would have had the ball after the foul shots up three and therefore osu doesn't get the chance to bring the ball down the floor for a shot. Second: If they then foul again, X would have been at the line again for two with a chance to make it a two possession game and with less time on the clock, even a fraction of a second less that same play by osu is after the game clock expired .
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I know the rules on an intentional foul... but other than the fact of anger, oden had no reason to intentionaly foul him. Its not like they gained an advantage. The rule is mainly to stop people from fouling when the other team has wide open lay ups, not at the end of the game when they are trying to foul.

Motive is not a factor in calling a flagrant foul. The fact that Cage rebounded the ball and the frustration of Oden not being the dominate factor in the games all could have been the reason. Face it the rule is to stop dangerous fouling out of frustration or thuggery and it has been called many times. Two of the refs had crossed wrists and said later they thought the call was flagrant but Cahill over ruled them because he was the head ref.

I'm not saying it was not an intentional foul but to say that an intentional foul call blew the gamne is like saying because the ref didnt call a tech on the other teams coach is the reason for loosing the game. It wouldn't play a role in the actual game being played

I beg to differ Bossin..The intent of the rule is to prevent injury. Period. Since it was Oden's fifth personal foul and he remarked after the game that if he was going to get called for a foul it would be a hard one, removes any question of why would Oden foul?
If you look at the replay as I'm sure many of us have in the past year, I believe you'll see Oden grab Cage, no small player in his own right, around the waist and sling him into the second row of the stands.
In truth, not only should the foul have been called "intentional" but it could very well have been called "flagrant," which would have meant ejection. Since Oden was already disqualified and since there were fewer than 10 seconds to play, "flagrant" was immaterial and irrelevant. However, the foul was definitely "intentional."
Cage should have been awarded two shots, not a one-and-one and the subsequently Xavier awarded the ball. Had that happened, OSU would not have had a chance to get the lucky three-point shot off. Regardless of the call, had Cage made the the second free throw, it's a two possession game, Xavier can play ole defense and win the game.
I promise you sir, any time John Cahill shows up to officiate a game involving Xavier University, Musketeers fans will tremble, wondering what the SOB is going to do (or in his case not do) next.
Before next Thursday's game, I hope either Mikle Bobinski or Sean Miller and Mike contact the NCAA and respectfully request that John Cahill not be assigned to work the West Virginia - Xavier game in Phoenix.
Oh, and if either the Xavier athletic director and/or the coach take such action, I would hope they'll keep quiet about it. And if Cahill is assigned to another region, I hope the NCAA keeps its collective mouths shut.
However, in the event that Cahill shows up to work another Xavier game, I hope the Xavier fans boo him out of the arena.

A flagrent foul is to protect from injury and a intentional foul is to stop from players fouling on open shots... and the reason for all the stoppage under a minute is because in the last minute the clock is supposed to stop on the refs whistle which obviously wasnt happening due to a malfuntion. So why do you blame that on the ref? If he didnt then he would get the same treatment from Purdue fans

I think the issue could go either way due to the persons opinion... but we need to stop talking about this because we are still playing basketball in march and only 16 teams can say that.
