Someday, maybe, owners will realize you do not run three YO fillies a mile and a quarter.
Big Brown will romp to the Triple Crown. I figure he went (considering the 20 hole, and running in the fourth/fifth lane all the way into the deep stretch) a mile and 3/8th's t lest, won by a ton, and still had enough gas to be a load to handle on the way back to the winners circle.
Small fields will run in the next two, but they'll be running for the place and show money.

Re: OT - Derby Help
Didn't a 3 year old filly win the belmont last year? The horse did not break down because of the distance. She was bred for it and was the 2nd best horse in the race. Barbaro broke down a couple of years ago and he was a colt. These things happen and will continue to happen in horse racing because they are overbred, caudled and over medicated. Horses break down more now then they did 50 years ago while racing less because they are bred differently and trained differently. In between races these horses rarely move other then to train a couple of times a week and then they sit in a barn. Back in the day horses would run more frequently and their ligments and muscles were better trained. But because of the money involved you will not see very many changes.
