If Sean wanted him and couldn't convince Odom, who basically would be our starting PG right away, to stay, then i'm not sure what the deal is. I wish he would have stayed. he managed to play well above his lack of a 3 pt shot, which still amazed me how guys would guard him beyond the arc.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 6:32 pmI think Sean definitely wanted him back. Very high IQ player who passes well, and is very efficient from 8 feet and in. He wasn't as great defensively as I thought he would be, and often got eaten up by skilled, quick guards. Nevertheless, it's a loss. and won't be the last. I do think the timing was a little curious (Desmond commits, then he leaves), and also heard from a family member with inside info that Kobi Simmons (former pg at AZ who left for the NBA his freshman year and didn't get drafted) and his family thought he wasn't used right, and that may have hurt his pro prospects. Odom and Simmons are close.
I think Free is definitely gone, and while I'd like him back, his defensive deficiencies really neutralize his ability on the offensive end. Best of luck to Odom. Great kid, and a great ambassador for X. I hope he kills it and realizes his dream of going to the NBA. X will recover, especially with the coach with the 6th best winning percentage in the NCAA among active coaches. Matta is 4th. Talk about a great coaching lineage.
weren't we supposed to get Simmons here at X? i remember that name as being a recruit for us.
I would love Freemantle to stay and he actually had a few of his BEST games in the NIT when he played 20-25 minutes as opposed to 30+. hmmm, interesting how that works.
Odom to the NBA? man, i do hope he's able to but if i had to pick a dude from this squad who had a chance to go to the NBA, it wouldn't be Odom. too short, no outside shot at all, etc. he will have a hard time getting there but he can easily find a squad overseas.
