I would think Sean wants guards who can shoot the 3.I can't understand, particularly in this day and age, how you can get to this point and have such a poor outside shot. And the weird thing is he's not bad from 12' in
I think Sean definitely wanted him back. Very high IQ player who passes well, and is very efficient from 8 feet and in. He wasn't as great defensively as I thought he would be, and often got eaten up by skilled, quick guards. Nevertheless, it's a loss. and won't be the last. I do think the timing was a little curious (Desmond commits, then he leaves), and also heard from a family member with inside info that Kobi Simmons (former pg at AZ who left for the NBA his freshman year and didn't get drafted) and his family thought he wasn't used right, and that may have hurt his pro prospects. Odom and Simmons are close.

I think Free is definitely gone, and while I'd like him back, his defensive deficiencies really neutralize his ability on the offensive end. Best of luck to Odom. Great kid, and a great ambassador for X. I hope he kills it and realizes his dream of going to the NBA. X will recover, especially with the coach with the 6th best winning percentage in the NCAA among active coaches. Matta is 4th. Talk about a great coaching lineage.
If Sean wanted him and couldn't convince Odom, who basically would be our starting PG right away, to stay, then i'm not sure what the deal is. I wish he would have stayed. he managed to play well above his lack of a 3 pt shot, which still amazed me how guys would guard him beyond the arc.

weren't we supposed to get Simmons here at X? i remember that name as being a recruit for us.

I would love Freemantle to stay and he actually had a few of his BEST games in the NIT when he played 20-25 minutes as opposed to 30+. hmmm, interesting how that works.

Odom to the NBA? man, i do hope he's able to but if i had to pick a dude from this squad who had a chance to go to the NBA, it wouldn't be Odom. too short, no outside shot at all, etc. he will have a hard time getting there but he can easily find a squad overseas.

Miller: "Dwon, I'm a former PG myself. I know what it takes to get you to the next level. You will love playing in my system. Give me a shot, I'll be there with you every step of the way."

Odom: "What about when you are suspended coach."

Miller: "Good point Dwon. You got me there."

I assume that is how it all ended here at X for Odom.

you can assume this all you want, but i will say with absolute 100% certainty that this had ZERO to do with him leaving.

Don’t assume, you know what happens when you do, right?

Fact is that we don’t know yet how long Miller might be suspended for. Could be just a couple of games. All the experts seem to a believe that won’t be less than 4, nor more than a dozen, games. That’s the coach missing the OOC games at the very most. I find it hard to believe that a player would leave because of that.

It appears that your really looking for some way to blame Miller for EVERYTHING that will happen this off-season and probably will continue to do the same thing for lord only knows how long. What’s next? You going to blame him for global warming? Inflation? Gas prices? Give it a rest. Unless YOU’VE had a conversation with Odom yourself, you’re as guilty of speculation and guessing as anyone else.

xaviermuskie2003 is a troll, pure and simple. List him as a "foe", like I do, and you don't have to read his drivel. Unless, of course, somebody else quotes him in their post. Please don't quote the troll.
Xavier always goes to the NCAA tournament, and almost always makes some noise while there. Projecting anything less than that this season feels like folly--Eamonn Brennan (ESPN Summer Shootaround, 2012)

You can find me at Cintas for any home game. Don't need to prove myself to anyone. I just choose not to live in fantasy-land regarding the Miller hire.

Miller had his shot here. He did a great job and I cheered for him. Then he left. No issues with that.

But he is now a retread who was fired from his last job. If it wasn't for NCAA violations like some on here seem to think, then it must have been for poor performance. Either way, not good.

I happen to think X can attract top flight coaches without the baggage and should have done better. Take shots at me all you want for that.

Xavier transfer Dwon Odom has heard from Iona, Georgia Southern, South Carolina, Duquesne and Loyola Marymount since entering the transfer portal.

So far not much big school interest but Georgia Southern and South Carolina are interesting.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Yes X can, but they didn’t. I have no issue with you being against the hire. Many are. Maybe in hindsight some even think Jonas would have been better or Matta or whomever. But Sean is it. Someday you may be able to say I told you so or maybe forgive him and the administration for hiring. Time will tell, but it does bring mixed views of Xavier. But for now it is what it is and beating a dead horse does nothing. Guess we’ll see how it all turns out.
