Homer you are spot on. Who knows if this was Miller telling him he wont play as much or Odom self-discovering. There are other rumors that Odom and the family of Kobi Simmons are very close and Simmons' family (right or wrong) expressed displeasure in his playing time. That said Homer, to your point I think Odom definitely would have gotten the minutes. He has 2 years in and is a great PG other than 3 point shooting (as you and MM pointed out). Claude is obviously talented but shot 33% from 3 in high school. I'm sure i don't need to remind this group that Odom shot just over 34% from 3 in high school. As for Kunkel taking minutes, that would be very bad for X. I also like Kunkel but no one got more mileage out of a game winning 3 in his first game than him. Last year he shot 26.7 from 3 which is worse than both Naji and Goodin in their last years. Kunkel however was significantly better shooting 33% this year. During the NIT where he got a ton of minutes, he had about 13 assists and 11 turnovers and shot less than 23% from 3. Odom has NOTHING to worry about Kunkel taking minutes. I like Kunkel as he is a hustler and great teammate. his shooting (at least in an X uniform thus far) is not nearly what i expected. I am hopeful that if he stays, he shoots much less per game and convert more.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 6:37 pmMman,muskieman wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 12:31 pmOdom talked to Sean and his family before making the decision. I am sure he saw that Desmond a 6'5" point guard, can shoot from any range and has recommitted, in addition, saw the success of Jones and Adam getting point guard minutes in the NIT run. I am sure he wants to be the starting point guard or at least have a leg up on the starter job. When he came in his biggest plus was on Defense but while he is good there are times in the big east where he was overwhelmed and not being a decent 3 point shooter hurt him, although 12 feet and in he was very good.
Considering that Ward is still in the picture that could make Odom the smallest and least offensive-minded guard on the squad and maybe the 5th best go-to guy. Ward is expected to be small forward with Jones but can play 1 to 3.
Are you sleeping in the garage with the car running all night again? Claude is a top 85 prospect, so has the potential to be a very good player. However, Desmond is not a prolific three-point shooter, statistically speaking. He's average, which is still far above Odom. He can certainly get there, but his long-range shooting needs refinement. Also, you think Odom is threatened by having minutes at the point taken away by Kunkel? I like Kunkel, except for him hurling too many threes and too early in the shot clock, which he has a penchant for doing. He has ice in his veins like JP, and is also good on the drive, but is turnover prone. 18-22 minutes a game is perfect for him, at the 2. He should only play point in emergency situations.
Odom wasn't a good three-point shooter, but was very good 10 feet and in, and was one of the few players who showed pretty, substantial progress. He is a loss, but I trust the coach with the 6th highest winning percentage among active coaches will be able to fill the cupboard quickly. LSU got an excellent coach but still lost their entire team. Texas Tech lost a lot of players this year and still had a great team this year. It is hard but can be done.

Re: Xavier recruits and transfers
Hello, I didn't say Adam would take over the Point guard position. in fact, I think Odom might have been the starter next year but he would divide his time with taller and better scorers some here and some that may come. I said that Odom was a good point but that his limitation was the 3 point line and that during the season there were BE teams that took advantage of him because of his size. They were quicker and stronger at times, was that wrong?
Now without highjacking the thread and forcing me to delete all of our off-topic posts let's look at Odom this year.
He started the BE out as a gangbuster with double-digit against Marquette and Nova but then decided to disappear in the next three games where he averaged 0 points while averaging double-digit minutes. He was overwhelmed in many of the BE games he played. I would say he was inconsistent and maybe you are influenced by his last game. In fact of the 5 games in the NIT he was good in only 2 of them and I am glad the last game he was because he was the star of the game. I thought had he played as he played in the TAM. FL. first Marq and first Nova games he would have been the starter.
I love Odom and I love his shot inside the arc but he decided to leave and it may have been all the things mentioned. He may have seen the writing on the wall that he would have stiffer competition than last year because of the possible talent coming in! ANy team needs a point that can shoot the three and Dwon doesn't fit that model as he made two threes and remember one was a pass that accidentally went in. In the big east with the point guards there are Dwon just doesn't make sense.
Ah I bet you didn't promote Odom as the starter between the Butler game and the first UConn game stretch.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Odom was planning on leaving before X played in the NIT

Spencer Cody (third year walk-on) enters the transfer portal. He was never going to get any playing time.

Tyrell twitter:
Oregon, UCLA, Texas, and the new staff at Seton Hall, all have reached out and entered the mix for Top-35 senior and former Xavier pledge Tyrell Ward, source told
@Stockrisers
Ward also remains in close contact with new staffs at Louisville and Florida.
