Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
Geez, that's one mediocre program. They've had some good players, but obviously the drive to succeed isn't there. At this point, the Explorers bring zip to the conference.

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
You guys....kill me
During those contests, Roberts had:
(Freshmen year)
3/05/05 - 7 points
2/19/05 - 10 points
(Soph year)
1/28/06 - 20 points
2/21/06 - 14 points
(Junior year)
3/8/07 - 22 points
2/24/07 - 14 points
1/27/07 - 15 points
First 3 years:
Average - 14.5 points against X
So my question is this: Do you think Roberts (now a Wooden candidate), who has improved his average every year, and barring any serious injury will be one of UD's top 5 all time scorers, has regressed this year when probably at least the last 2 years he was guarded by Burrell? Has SB improved that much and Robert regressed an equal amount, or do you think maybe BRob really was under the weather? Why didn't SB do this job ALL the time on BRob? Also...don't you at least aknowledge that at a minimum, BRob was double teamed (sometimes triple) the entire night? Why does SB get all the credit when he had help on almost every time BRob touched the ball? See the thing is this: BRob has been double teamed nightly the last 2 years, and during that time has probably averaged 18/game. The few times he hasn't been double teamed (Pitt this year), he got 30+. If SB is that good, why not just play BRob MTM?
Out of curiosity, I went back to look at all of the contests between Xavier and UD since Roberts was a freshmen. While I cannot confirm who guarded BRob during that time, I'm fairly certain at least the last 2 years, (not including the contest from a week ago) it's been SB guarding BRob. I base that on what I remember and news accounts which are still available on UD's official site http://daytonflyers.cstv.com/.EAST TENNESSEE STATE 31 pts

udcryer,
Hammer did play him MTM the whole game. When someone sets a pick for Roberts then the ONLY logical thing to do is have the picker's man force Roberts away from the basket. It happened all game long. When Hammer wasn't being picked there was NO HELP coming. You need to crawl back in your whole and maybe watch the tape unless you burned it along with most of the cryers chances of getting to the dance. They better right the ship soon.
BTW, Cage was usually the person guarding Roberts last year. Again, go back and look at the loses.

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
You make some good points. I think Stan just needs to get his confidence back (in his shot). Even Sean has said that he needs to produce more on offense to become complete.sweet16 wrote:I agree True and believe me I'm not a Stan basher. I think he is a very important part of this team and a major contibutor to their success. I just find it puzzling at times that some people come on here and talk about Stan being THE complete player. As our shooting guard Stan has a hole in his game right now so he is not a complete player. Others say that SB is our team MVP and still others say he is our most unselfish player. Well, IMO the first statement is an insult to Drew (clearly the team MVP) and the second an insult to Duncan and BJ (who scarificed starting roles for the betterment of the team).
Regarding MVP, I think one can most certainly make a case for Stan. We may have won just as many games with his defense as we have with Drew running the ship. Stan may be more consistent with his D than Drew is in creating offense, but, then again, I think Drew may have had a slight injury during his less-than-stellar (but still good) performances. Hopefully, we'll never have to find out which is more critical to the team.
Regarding "most unselfish", I would never pick any one player on the team for that designation. With the balanced team play that this group has exhibited, they all sacrifice to a degree, some less than others. I agree that Josh and BJ deserve extra kudos, though, for continuing to play at a very high level.

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
Based on the number of scalps that Stan has taken this year and based on the fact that Robert's illness; which the coach said had lingered for a month, had no effect on BRs O game before and after the X game, I would say it WAS Stanley that stopped Roberts and not the so called illness. If Stan had not stopped the impressive list of guards he defended this year you might have a point...but you don't(unless you see things through _lyer colored glasses.udflyerfan wrote:You guys....kill me

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

You don't exactly "triple" team a guard. That would result in a lot of easy baskets for the opposition. If the situation presents itself to trap a guard, then any good defensive team would do that, even to untalented guards, as that would force turnovers. (Not at all saying Roberts is untalented, that would be a discredit to Stan and the musketeer defense.) And double teaming a guard happens only if he gets around his defender, or cuts around a pick, or somehow ends up in the paint. That is just good help D. I do not recall one instance in which Roberts got the ball on the perimeter and two or three defenders bum rushed him. Now Roberts is clearly your best player, and considering the weakness of your roster at the moment, he is going to be the focus of any team's defense. Stan and the gang shut him down. Umass and Richmond didn't. No other team on your schedule shut him down like that. That should tell you something about our team... and about the man assigned your best player. Final point... lets consider for a second that he wasn't the focus of our defense... Do you think he would go off and score, say, 47, if we decided to man him up and not try to cut him off as much? No. You know why? Because Dayton doesn't recruit top NBA talent like Xavier does, because even all the best players in your little pond come swarming to us. So stop making excuses. I saw him panting on the bench. He just wanted to get out of the game because he knew that he wasn't going to score again anyways. 5 points would have looked even worse had played over 30 minutes. Like the rest of your team, he gave up. And frankly, I would be less worried about defending your loss to an obviously more talented team than trying to explain what happened in Richmond... after Roberts miraculous recovery.
Let's March!

Do you think Stan's scalps would garner him as much attention as Chad's checklist? There's some billboard imagery for you.

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
finn never was the player stanley has been from day 1, was back up guard until guys ahead graduated, most noted as a basketball player @ X, he obviously lost his focus as a senior while all eyes were on him...(-) comments occur when his name pops up in a stanley burrell thread otherwise, not mentioned.........la salle finished 3rd in A10 last year highest since joining the conference......as far as dropping them from A10,..can we do that here? must be a slow process to build there.....
