--G Sundiata Gaines was named the Most Valuable Player in the SEC tournament. He scored 59 points in the four games and was 20-of-44 from the field. More important, he was a steadying influence running the club, though he did foul out twice. Gaines is the third Bulldog to win MVP honors, joining Dominique Wilkins (1981) and Vern Fleming (1983).

Think Vic and Vern have a little wager going on this week? Vic was one of X's stars in our first trip back in the NCAA's (1983) since the early 60's. We played Alcorn St. in Dayton which was then the opening round game into the field of 32. X lost but it was the beginning of the great run this program has been on. Boy that was a fun game even though we lost, and have expectations changed...for the better!

There was an XU/UGA matchup when Vern and Vic were in school. Our Vic had a better game than his more heralded twin. Georgia won the game and it is the only game played between the 2 teams.

I had forgotten about that game, birdman.

According to the XU media guide, X lost at Georgia, which was #11 at the time, 73-70 on 12/29/83. Don't have a box score.
