No help from Xavier — scout's honor

Matta said he didn't get the scoop on the Flyers from Xavier coach Sean Miller, Matta's close friend.

"It's conference rules that they can't give us any information," Matta said. "However, last year when we played Xavier (in the NCAA tourney), Xavier told us after the game, 'Yeah, everybody told us what to do to you guys.'

We follow the rules here."

Is he really that ridiculous? He's trying to do two things, here: (1) He's trying to argue that Xavier had a competitive advantage by stealing info about the Buckeyes before the second round game last March; and (2) He's suggesting that Xavier doesn't abide by this supposed ethical rule. Would he actually try to disparage the program in the midst of X's tourney run simply because they're outshining the Buckeyes? Would he really try to sabotage the great name that Sean Miller is cultivating for Xavier? It would seem so. Seriously, That Matta SUCKS. What a self-serving b@stard ...

My guess is that Matta gave that answer because he was asked the question, not because of a deep-seated pathological desire to sabotage our NCAA tourney run.

Dear Lord, we are so defensive on this board. Any mention by any person that isn't 1000000000% pro-Xavier or with ONLY a pro-Xavier focus is taken as seriously as murdering a family member. And, who knows, maybe he was a little miffed at what he saw as X's violation (no matter how insignificant) of conference rules.

Maybe people think of us as a midmajor because WE have a midmajor mentality.

I think he is knocking someone in the B-10 for giving X information. It is not unethical to get tapes but there are so many sources for tapes it is ridiculous. The A-10 has the rule about giving tapes on A-10 teams because they are protecting their league. If X would have played osu this year they could have given dayton tapes but not osu tapes of dayton.

As for Matta, don't we all know that he doesn't thought in his every statement, that what gets him in trouble.

I think some B-10 schools might be looking over their shoulders for Matta.

believe it or not i usually side with what you have to say- - especially with regards to thad matta ....

i tell my employers all the time i love my job and feel at home -- but if someone came calling from a bigger firm and more dollar signs ... i would be stupid not to at least listen and maybe leave --

it really depends on the manner he said it in, too. maybe he was taking a shot at Xavier by implying we didn't follow the rules, maybe not. either way it wasn't really a necessary thing to say. according to the article he was asked if xavier helped, he could have just said "no" and moved on but he defended himself too much to not appear a bit sleazy. i think (know) something shady is going on at that school, why say "we follow the rules here" if noone really asked?
