My question is, do these players really believe that they are CLOSE to Gonzaga? I think Gonzaga is the team that is trying to catch up to us. And it's a shame that they're never going to be able to show that they're better than us because they refuse to play us, even in Washington state.

But dig underneath the chip about being a mid-major and the well-toned arrogance, and you'll find kids who know that they are only fulfilling the dreams of one man. And if he's gone, things could change.


LONG time lurker, but first time poster on this board. I don't know why, but this quote from the article made me finally decide to post on the board.

With the recent boon in national attention, it reminds me just how wrong the national perception of Xavier is. Xavier may or may not be where we are today as a basketball program because of one man, but if we are, it is not because of Sean, it is because of Fr. Hoff. I, for one, contend that the success of the program is due to the commitment that the entire school administration has made. The list of "up-and-coming" successful young coaches that have left X is long, and proves that no coach is bigger than a program, IF the school is committed to the program. X is committed, so even if, God forbid, Sean leaves, we will be alright. Contrary to the belief of the author, we will not fall apart and fall out of national exposure.

Wow, what a great read. I do think X is greater than 1 man, but I also believe it is time to establish our "Bob Knight", "Dean Smith", "John Chaney", etc.

Apparenty the author of this article has not seen "The Family of X" commercials (insert techo music here). A family is more than one person. X is a community! That being said, Millier is a great family member and represents us well.

If XU wants to have our own John Chaney, maybe Miller should bust into Huggins' news conference after the game tonight and start screaming threats at him.

well said Jax. I completely agree with your opinion on who the true architect of xavier hoops is in Father Hoff. What i am encouraged by is seeing Father Graham, and others, take that torch from Fr. Hoff and know that a guy like Miller is someone this university can get behind both in what he brings to coaching and how he represents Xavier as a whole.
