Upon further review, and if you have the game taped, go to the 0:35 of regulation mark, Xavier leads by two and has the ball.
Drew works the clock down, gets to 10-12 feet for a short jumper and gets clobbered from behind and goes to the deck.
The replay shows the WVa player with his right knee into Drew’s right side, and his arm across Drew’s back. He should have been at the line shooting two with 0:25 on the clock … and a “likely” four point lead. No whistle.
Derrick manages a huge rebound off the miss and in trying to get free, he is fouled by not one, but two WVa players. Whistle blows, jump ball, possession WVa.
Also, the time from when he came down with the ball and the time he was free of the WVa players, took exactly seven/tenths of a second A blown call? Yes. And an incredible “quick” whistle.
And, the closest official to the play didn’t come close to extending his arms up for a jump ball, until after the underneath official 20 some feet away signaled it.
After a WVa timeout, clock at one end is incorrect and there is a 2-3 minute delay in correcting the problem (turning it off).
Alexander hits jumper and is fouled. On that play, Love is fouled hard on a blatant moving pick under the basket, no call there, but a ticky tack foul call on the shot. If you’re going to make that call, then you sure as hell make the call on Drew.
Some were critical of Sean not calling a TO to set up a last shot, but he actually had done that during the delay in fixing the clock problem. His thinking was WVa will be expecting a TO, and perhaps someone whould be sleeping on the defensive end. They were’t, but they did fould Drew.
In any case, we won anyway. We just shouldn’t have had to go thru the extra five minutes of biting nails.
