Musketeer Madness

today when I read his column. He started out his article with this and I says all we need to know about our kids this year.

The Musketeers got as much from who they are as they could, and that's all you can ask, even after Saturday's blowout. They played the way you are taught as a kid to play. Play for your teammates. Play for each other. Shelve the Me, and the We takes care of itself. It isn't easy to get your three most important players, all seniors, to put their pro ambitions on pause and do what's right by everyone.

Drew Lavender and Josh Duncan did it. Stanley Burrell fell so hard for it, he should be an honorary Fourth Musketeer.

From Miller's right lens, we see a program that has cleared the Little Man hurdle. Perception is reality in recruiting, and while XU won't be bringing the next Kevin Love to Victory Parkway any time soon, the perception nationally is that Xavier is big-time.

It could be that Miller's three seniors were exceptional. Or it could be that Miller has created (and recruited to) an atmosphere at Xavier where Team matters above all. Those are the lessons from this season, and they are good. Even if the last game was not.


Way to go Paul

Every dogg has his day -- i even sent paul an email to tell him i appreciated his piece

slowly, cincy and beyond is starting to warm up to XAVIER BBALL. Now to stay at this level!

Still a dogg to me.

I got the feeling he was downplaying our program for most of the articles:

"Xavier maxed out its season"
"But barring a mental meltdown, UCLA would beat Xavier nine times out of 10." (don't agree at all - i believe an avg. game we are within 10, an above avg. game its a toss up and a "top-of-our game" performance (i.e. Kansas St., Virginia) we win by 10)
"XU won't be bringing the next Kevin Love to Victory Parkway any time soon" (no mention of our best recruiting class ever: including Mr. Frease- our best recruit ever out of high school i believe)

I do appreciate his notation of how cohesive our team is and the type of basketball we play, that's been a talking point for all of the media all season. The summary i got from his article was Xavier still can't play with the big boys and i don't believe that to be true.

He has said very nice things about X recently. Let's face it he likes to stir things up most of the time but I have enjoyed his recent articles about the Musketeers.

People. Remember he's writing a COLUMN.It is his opinion and it is therefore, since they pay him, the Enquirer's opinion. I see nothing significantly wrong with the piece. His purpose is to entertain, amuse, poke at probe for a reactive nerve, and in general keep people asking each other, "Did you see what Daugherty said today?"
During the entire NCAA tournament Doc has been not only kind but extremely flattering to Sean and the Xavier players, especially the seniors. Seldom will all of us, all of everyone, really, agree with Paul. If we did, he'd be out of a job, now, wouldn't he?
