Watching the Memphis/Texas game... at halftime I swear Howland said "We played well against "Eggs-aviers" last night.

Did I hear that right?

Let it go.. He knows X has a great program. It will always be pronounced X-avier by some. Sparky Anderson used to pronounce Cincinnati, Cincinnata.

Yes, you heard that right. Ignorance is not limited to our normal opponents.

Oh it doesn't bother me too much... but it's hard to believe the head coach doesn't know who he just beat in the elite 8.

If he only said it once I thought I heard him pronounce it right.

I am from Cali originally and I always thought it was EX-avier until my junior year here when someone finally corrected me. No biggie, we'll get there eventually.

OK, we've gotten most of the media to drop the O in Xavier(O). Most everyone with any sense of sports worldiness knows we are not Eggs. We've been to the Elite 8 twice now, we're major by any definition but those who want to pimp us.

So let's drop the bitchin' and midmajor whining and just enjoy who we are, like the rest of the elite schools. Stop taking offense where none is intended. It is not, repeat not, a personal affront to us as a school or as Muskies that someone goofs it up. It's way too close to an inferiority complex that we can now afford to get over. We don't need to splain it to the few whose pronunciation is wanting, and we don't need to take the bait or froth with contrived indignation.

We brothers, and sisters, we know how to say it; and our team knows how to play it. That's enough.

i see wear pronunciation can be confused......one moment it' refered to as (Ecks) next moment (Zavier) but i think it is necessary in the future to put our players' 1st and last names on the front and back of the jerseys because the announcers don't know who in the hell they're talking about....JUSTIN LOVE, JR RAYMOND, ET ALS...media brochure should be prepared, bio of St Xavier also
