Indiana University told the NCAA on Monday that its own self-imposed penalties should be enough to keep the organization from having to punish the school for improper phone calls made by Kelvin Sampson before he resigned as basketball coach.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Just think if you could write the IRS and tell them you have punished yourself and you feel that they no longer needed to investigate your tax fraud issue.

The most tragic aspect of the whole IU pomposity is they'll probably get away with it. Myles Brand either knows they have something on him from his days there or thinks too highly of his former school to pound them unmercifully.
I notice with amusement the reaction of the Indiana boosters-fans-students or what have you. They sound like the UC faithful back in 1978 saying "We're not as bad as Kentucky and some of the other schools that never get punished and we know they're cheating. And of course when UC cheated under Yates, they claimed innocent because "We didn't win, did we?"
This and the USC joke are just two more examples of the arrogance of some intercollegiate athletic programs.
"We'll tell you what punishment we deserve and when we deserve it. Now go away and investigate Centenary or Jacksonsota State or some other little program who doesn't make you the money we do. And be quick about it."
And the wheels continue to roll and the bullsh!t continues to flow. Meanwhile, Xavier and many schools like it continues to do it the right way.
