Re: Xavier recruits and transfers
I’m starting to think that the year away from the game has had more of a detrimental effect on Miller’s ability to recruit right now, than I initially thought it might. The loss of continual contact with younger players…from their freshman year until they choose a college….is seemingly coming into play here. Combine that with Xavier’s lack of post season success over the last 4 years, and I can understand why X is not yet gotten many takers. Seems the recruits might be taking a “wait and see” approach at this time. But I’ve no doubt that a successful regular season and some post-season success this next year could easily turn that around quickly. It might take a year or two to overcome the last administration, but I’m confident that it’s only a matter of time before Sean is able to “close the sale” on some top recruits.

I think if we looked at the last twenty years you would see that we have many more lookers than takers as far as recruits. We just know about many more offers than in the past. If you look at the places we are recruiting in Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina just to name a few you can understand that you will not get every recruit. As fans we want everyone to love us and many do but they love another place too because they have other priorities. Now we add international which is a whole different ballgame because there you have to play the game close to the chest in whom you are looking at because the international pro teams will go after that same recruit with that last-minute offer. Chris learned that the hard way. If X gets an international player, and I hear they are looking, it might be a last-minute announcement and surprise us all. We must be patient and with some success this year it will only ramp up expectations for the following years.
While DHS might be a miss and we don't know that yet we still have Swain and Ducharme on the radar

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Xavier recruits and transfers
Could not agree more MM. X-Nation brethren, I ask you to take a small step back to just 5 months ago. We had just limped down the stretch for a 3rd straight year and missed the big dance. Seemingly any long term solutions were still a full year away if that. There were rumors of losing several key players to the portal. So now, again just 5 months later, we have a proven nationally respected coach in place. (yes I realize he has some tarnished overtones to his legacy that he needs to earn back) However, Coach Miller has also been able to add two really impressive highly thought of up & coming assistants plus retain Dante. Have we missed on a couple top recruits? Of course, I though believe it was impressive that we have now made so many final 5 lists as that is where it starts. To come in a VERY close 2nd on that international kid a month ago was, as anyone thinking logically, should agree that being edged out by Michigan is no disgrace. Have we forgotten already Trey Green? 4 star and I have seen rising still in what should be the soon released final rankings. A talented PG, who by the way can shoot it a bit from deep, and appears to have the heart of a Tim Krumrie.. (yes, dating myself here) Our cupboard going into this coming season is not exactly bare. I do not believe it is urgent to add anyone that is not a kid that the staff covets. As MM stated, we live in such a here/now instant social media world where we know and see everything as it plays out. Then we see the ***** loops and repercussions play out ad nauseam. I for one think it is well past time to take a deep breath and appreciate just how far we have come in these past 5 months. Where we are positioned. Just know that as this staff gets a bit more seasoned and climbs back into BE relevancy, this already decent recruiting campaign will do nothing but continue to blossom. Maybe I am weird, but my mind can still envision a parallel universe where the brass did not have the stones to pull the plug on Coach Steele. (again, a nice dude and we wish him well). But those thoughts still periodically have me waking up in a cold sweat around 3:30am......... So color me ecstatic, and possibly losing out on DHS in the next week ain't gonna drain my high.

Re: Xavier recruits and transfers
While anything is possible, I would not put any failed recruiting attempts on Miller. X has struggled for a number of years and that was eventually going to create a recruiting problem. Additionally, these are high level recruits and X has missed on plenty of them over the years.
The team is in a position where they can easily hold out for top notch talent. Plenty of recruits opt to commit late. Xavier can put a show on this season and the recruits will come. Not saying X is a final 4 team but I do believe they will accomplish more than they did the past several years. If needed, fill some holes from transfers and focus on the next class.
I am excited about the current commit. Nothing better than a true point.

X continued to recruit at a high level (at least on paper), including transfers, even during the Steele era. Unfortunately, coaching and development weren't his strong suits. A bad cook can make a meal taste bad even with the best of ingredients. I've experienced this at many of Muskieman's barbeques. His Hot Dog A La Mode never fails to disappoint.

One thing great about AH is with his cocktail of hallucinogenic imbibements you can tell him anything at a barbeque and he will believe it.Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 10:55 amI disagree.pdxmuskie wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 5:32 amWhile anything is possible, I would not put any failed recruiting attempts on Miller. Re: Xavier recruits and transfers
All signs point to X. One service has X at 90%, and another at 100%. The only drawback with Miller coming in and his ability to recruit shooters and taking away the green light shooting policy for anyone with a pulse is the number of personal injury attorneys who will lose a ton of business. Rumor is they are buying season tickets at Miami. BTW, I wish Coach Steele the best of luck. Really good guy who.........he is a really good guy.

I wonder if Coach Miller is going to anoit Deointe Miles as the preseason Defensive Player of the Year as Travis did last year? Probably not.
