meet the newest Muskie Souley Boum

Postby muskieman » Mon May 02, 2022 7:53 pm

I know I put this on the pinned thread but figured that some might have missed it.
Adam announced Souley Boum to the Muskies https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... ouley-boum

Jeff Goodman
@GoodmanHoops
Souley Boum, 6-3, 160, G, Jr.

The Numbers: 19.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.9 apg, 37% 3-pointers (64-174)

The Scout: “He can really, really score, and his shot selection improved this year. He’s not a great passer, and can be a volume guy, but he can put the ball in the basket.”

One of the biggest focuses for Xavier has been to improve their shooting, and Souley Boum adds a piece to the puzzle.

Excited for the inevitable “boom” calls on made threes next season.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

This is simply stunningly fabulous. Watched several videos of Souley and the young man is pretty slick out there on the court. Quick & sudden, can create a decent shot anytime he wants no matter who is guarding him. My only fear is that he sometimes hunts his shots a bit aggressively but would rather have a confident player as opposed to a hesitant one. The kid can ball and score. Seems athletic enough to be able to defend if coached and properly motivated. While not a true PG, could fill in there at times as part of a rotation to help the true Frosh. All in all, in this current era, the best teams can place significant pressure on their foes by being able to score the ball consistently from multiple dimensions. Souley will help hugely by forbidding opponents from packing it in. Add to that it's May 2nd and Free has now officially not transferred - and it's a glorious day to be a Muskie fanatic..!

Certainly, Soul will be a valuable piece. I saw him in a couple of games last season and he seems to sense when he should take over a game and score. His 85% career average from the foul line gives us a guy at the end of the game that people will think twice about fouling and his driving ability will increase like we saw teams do TO Xavier the last couple of years. He is long and while he is thin he seems to take punishment and still be able to finish. One thing was when UTEP players shot the three and there were long rebounds Soul got a lot of them. He moved without the ball and seemed to guild around the court. He has numerous speeds with and without the ball. Now granted it was not against BE talent but with the talent around him he should do well.

One game I saw was where he had an off-night shooting from the line and the announcers were saying that Soul had gone from 87% to shooting 75% in the last few games would be acceptable on most teams(for that season he averaged 85%) If it is true that a player can elevate others with his FT shooting Soul may make others on the team better. He doesn't seem like the player that taunts guys defending him or pounding his chest after a great play, although he might and I just didn't see those games. He played 37-minutes on average last season.

How does he fit in with X's team? I hope he is an improved scoring at the point. I am sure it will take some time to be comfortable with his teammate's talent. A rotation of Jones, Soul, Adam, and Des going from PG to SG or PG to SF would give Sean a great dilemma of who gets the most time. If Kraft is also a three-point threat along with Soul's the drive may come back as it did in the NIT. PS: I forgot Kyky. I hope he makes an impact that Sean can find useful. Maybe a competition for Kyky, Soul, Adam, and Kraft can develop for the premiere 3-point sharpshooter to replace Nate.

One thing I hope we don't see is Soul going rogue because he is showcasing for the NBA next season but that is Sean's problem if it happens. I hope he is OKG.

I swear in that ESPN link he looks like Dwayne Wade’s twin LOL. Maybe that’s a sign.

In honor of the late Bobby Slick Leonard it should be "Boom Baby"!

Why comment on "He doesn't seem like the player that taunts the other team or pound his chest"?

Are you disappointed or happy? Give me a player that gets in the head of his opponent any day of the week. As a person who used this to his advantage many times, I can assure you it is a significant asset. The player does need to understand his opponent as running your mouth to the wrong player will backfire. I've played that roll too.

Stats look legit. Hoping this is the piece the team needs to not just make the tournament but make a run.
