With the shooting talent, we think X has the job of head coach is going to be tough rotating Kyky, Soul, adam, Desmond along with Kraft and Jones. Now get Miles and Kennedy into the big man rotation along with Hunter and X has a decent enough team to contend in the BE but other teams have been replacing parts and coaches so the conference looks up for grabs.
So who gets the starters nod?
I think the out-of-conference will see multiple lineups so I am looking for the starters by conference time.
My starting 5 barring injury.
Jack
Jones,
Soul
PF ? I don't have a good read on this position yet
and surprise SG Kam Kraft
First off the bench by position
Zack for Jack If Zach snaggs the PF then Miles
Desmond Claude for Soul
Adam for Jones if going small Hunter for Jones is staying big
Adam for Kam Kraft or Kyky if he plays D and still can fill it up from outside
PF? Edwards if he doesn't snag the starters spot.
The two players that could earn big minutes in the rotation Miles and Edwards...who wants it most? I'd like to see how Miles develops physically because he could be a surprise if the light turns on and his body gets a little stronger.
Any thoughts?

GUYS there is only one ball
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: GUYS there is only one ball
It is interesting to speculate as quite a few combos. First of all, I continue to be perplexed as to why Kyky chose to stay. By all accounts, a good young man and we were all pleased when he signed with X. But it has not worked out and he simply does not have the handle to play point, nor the size/consistency to be an effective shooting guard. So I see him struggling again next season to even avg 3 minutes a game. I do believe Dieonte will have a bigger role under Sean, but at or under 8 minutes a game. My starting five prediction will only be for the start of next season. As eventually I expect Des & Kam to be possibilities as starter. I also expect Cesare to be a potential wild-card starter later in year once the new coahing staff has a chance to mold him into form. But once again, this question was for the start of next season. So I believe Sean will want to balance offense and defense along with experience. My gut take:
PG = Souley
SG = Colby
SF = Jerome Hunter (Surprise!! yes, a reclamation project for Sean, he will treasure the D aspect)
PF = Free. (Free showed a slight improvement on the willingness to compete on defensive end down the stretch, you cannot argue his O & experience)
C = Jack. ( Duh....)
Coach Miller will easily be able to regularly go 9 or ten deep. Who knows what we have with Tucker, hopefully he surprises with upside. Kunkel, Craft & Cesare 1st off the bench.
All I know for certain is that I simply cannot wait.....!

Over his years as head coach, Miller has usually stuck with a 7-8 man rotation. I doubt that he will suddenly go to a 9-10 man rotation.

Does anybody have a feel for what Hersey Miller's abilities are ? Does he have D1 guard potential?

I'm pretty sure that he's a walk-on. If so, that should suggest an answer to your question.finalfourorbust wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 10:42 amDoes anybody have a feel for what Hersey Miller's abilities are ? Does he have D1 guard potential?
Xavier always goes to the NCAA tournament, and almost always makes some noise while there. Projecting anything less than that this season feels like folly--Eamonn Brennan (ESPN Summer Shootaround, 2012)

I have no feel for the starters other than Nunge and Jones. Souley based on stats seems likely.
Miles will likely get significant minutes. Edwards, Free and Hunter will fight for minutes at the 4. Edwards and Free may get some minutes at 5 based on matchups/foul trouble. Hunter will probably get some minutes at SF.
Kunk and Tandy will fight for minutes. Kunk has the lead on these minutes but Miller might be able to get through to Tandy on what he needs to do to get minutes. Other than a handful of games the past couple years, Tandy hasn't shown anything. His shot is legit so it is a matter of figuring out how to unleash it while ensuring he plays the other end.
I know nothing about the freshmen. Hopefully 1 is ready to step into the starting lineup.
Miller is not inheriting an amazing situation. The team is solid. I would expect falling just short of the NCAA or just making it based on known talent. Because of my confidence in Miller, I believe X will comfortably make the tournament. Like any coach, he gets a few years to prove himself but I think he will get us back to the NCAA.
